Well, here it is Jan 30, 2006 and I have the exact same question! I would assume Riva does NOT plan on supporting the On2 VP6 codec or they would have responded by now. Too bad. We really need a product that will convert FLV using On2 VP6 into AVI files. It would facilitate those people that want to download the higher quality FLV files and the convert them into AVI for DVD production (poor quality of course, but there are people that want to do that).
Riva uses ffmpeg as transcoding engine. Since ffmpeg does not support (and mostlikely wont ever support) on2VP6, only sorenson spark encoded videos are generated

LOL, it's not quite that expensive.
Because of its nice user interface and ease of running batch video conversion-jobs (avi to flv or avi to swf), I purchased and use the Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 for Flash. Then, I purchased the plug-in On2Vp6 codec through Sorenson because the On2VP6 codec produces much higher quality FLV videos that the standard Spark codec.
The Sorenson Squeeze for Flash (not the full suite) cost about $219 US.
The plug-in for On2VP6 cost an additional $149 US.
TOTAL $368 US.
While this is more than a casual user would want to invest, it is well worth it to someone like myself that does a tremendous amount of video conversion to Flash media. I've tried other combinations of software and procedures for what I do, but this works the best for me.
Unfortunately for the people in cyberland that download FLV files using On2VP6, there is currently no product (that I have found) that will convert them back into an AVI file. While I know the resulting AVI would be pretty poor quality from an FLV used for streaming content (lower settings), some people would like an AVI file so that they can burn a DVD from them.
If anyone knows of a way to get FLV files converted into AVI or MPEG where a DVD can be burned from them, PLEASE let me know.
im talking about licences for implementing the codec into ffmpeg (or other software)
a licence like this is way more than 10000$.

IMPORTANT - FOR PRODUCT/SITE DEVELOPERS
Two others, Software Development Kits:
On2 Flix Engine SDK - for websites & databases that want to integrate Flash 8 encoding: ~$20,000 + royalties
On2 DirectShow Flash 8 Video SDK - for all Windows applications that want to do same: ~$50,000 + royalties

Sure u can get Flix or Sorenson + Plugin, but thats not what free software is about
I doubt a proprietary codec will find its way to a LGPL ffmpeg
im sure on2's flix or SDK (seem them prices!!) are capable of re-coding back to avi.
Since ffmpeg doesnt handle Vp6, u can just decode/encode sorenson spark.[/quote]

Okay, I see what you mean. Not geared for "free" use at all. Best to wait until we are independantly wealthy. Not likely to happen here with a nickname like "banjonut".
Hello,
Is there already a solution for converting VP6 movies to fonvert VP6 encoded FLV files into something usable? I have found Gabest's DirectShow FLV splitter, but it shows no output video pins for the files I tried. If somebody fixes/updates the splitter, then we could convert the video to AVI/MKV using graphedit and VP6 DirectShow decoder(codec), which can be downloaded for free AFAIK.
Other possible way would be to capture an output from Flash player (FLV Player) into uncompressed AVI. This sould be technically possible. What do you think?
